Rant

I dislike moving. No, scratch that. I really, really dislike moving. I would rather force myself to sit through a bad/cheesy romantic comedy with Ryan Reynolds in a crowded/stuffy movie theater with major gas discomfort than move. The reason for my rant? I just spent the past three days relocating my office to another building. Sure, it was just to the other tower (My building consists of two twin towers, East and West, 100 feet across) and yes I had plenty of help and yes I had planned this move for two weeks and yes I am a big crybaby, but come on, it was hard! Yet my hatred for moving had me really thinking about my profession in the Real Estate business.
Real Estate is all about relocation. Whether you’re finding that perfect home for your client Jill or finding Investor Jim a new business to run, in the end, there is always relocation involved. How could I dislike moving so much when my career revolves around the notion of moving/relocation? At this point, I made a pact with myself. I will tolerate moving.
So the next time you Real Estate agents finally get that much waited for email from escrow officer Jane about your deal finally closing, don’t go cashing your check and heading to Vegas just yet. Take the time to help your client through the difficulties of their move and I am sure that the karma points you will earn will out weigh the three foot margarita you were going to purchase at Margaritaville. I know I will. *Giving you karma points for reading this rant…

Oh joy! Seems like the commercial real estate listing giant finally listened to my prayers/pleadings as they just rolled out with an app specifically designed for the Android mobile operating system. This is great news for all the mobile CRE agents that do not have an iJoke, sorry iPhone, and would have to load Loopnet’s website on the horrifically slow Android web browser. I found that a typical protracted escrow for a new NFL stadium closed sooner than loading Loopnet’s website on a mobile web browser. *Pats Loopnet’s back
A full review of the application will be available soon.

Woe is me. As a CRE broker, it always hurts to see commercial retail vacancies in budding community areas. In the lesser, more unfortunate areas, vacancies are commonplace, but in Beverly Hills? Oh, woe is me.
Driving down Beverly Drive today, I noticed there were huge, ground floor retail spaces that were vacant and prolifically adorned with “For Lease” signs. Did it matter that the building care takers were carefully cleaning the glass in front of the empty retail spaces to upkeep the building’s prestige? Did it matter that there were 8 million “For Lease” signs plastered on the side of the vacant buildings? Not according to one of the latest post from the BeverlyHillsPatch RE blog. Apparently, one of the main issues for the rise in vacancy rates is the lack of parking, or dare I say it, affordable parking in this corridor of Beverly Hills.
“Council members attributed a lack of parking as a main contributor to the retail decline south of Wilshire Boulevard.”
So to recap: Retail Space in BH+ Lack of Parking = 14% Retail Vacancy Rate. hmmm
Now, investors, lets put our thinking caps on. Care to start building affordable parking structures in BH?

Koreatown is finally on the map! With Los Angeles being ranked as the nation’s 13th most “walkable” city, Koreatown gets some love by being the second most “walkable” neighborhood in Los Angeles. Funny things is that in all my years of living in Koreatown, noone ever wanted to be labeled “that guy/girl” walking in K-town, obviously relying on the K-town tested adage that cool people drive. Oh my, how times have changed!
